I knew before we had gone on
our second date that Mitch was "the one". I think he knew it pretty
quickly as well. We started discussing the possibility of getting
married within a few months of dating and Mitch used to tease me that
he was going to have get me a "big rock" to make me happy. My response
to him was that I didn't care about getting a ring, and for all I
cared he could propose with a ring pop (preferably cherry flavored) I
just wanted to marry him! From that point on it became our little
joke.
I knew Mitch had made a promise
to his sister that he would introduce her to the woman he was going to
marry before he proposed. This presented a tiny problem for us because
she lives in Paris! So, right after Christmas I traveled with Mitch
and his parents to Paris to visit. Knowing this was my final
"interview" I suspected that Mitch might propose in the City of Love.
On our first day of site seeing
Mitch and I went to see Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris. We
strolled along the Seine, looking at the various venders and artists.
We walked across the bridge, which has beautiful views of the city. As
we were walking across the other side Mitch pulled me into one of the
empty alcoves and handed me a little bag and nonchalantly said "
Here's a little something for you." Inside of the bag was a ring pop.
As I turned to Mitch to ask him what this meant (just to be sure) he
was on his knee with the ring. He said "Baby, I love you…will you
marry me?" All I could do was nod my head furiously and hug him. I was
on top of the world! When I finally composed myself enough to whisper
yes Mitch kissed me and slipped the ring on to my finger.
Mitch then introduced me to
Dale and Meredith, who had been photographing the proposal. I was so
focused on Mitch that I didn't even notice that they were there. Mitch
had hired them as a surprise to capture the proposal and then shoot
our engagement photos in Paris the next day.
It was a fairy-tale
experience…I still can't believe how blessed I am to have Mitch in my
life. I am marrying an amazing man…sorry ladies, he's mine!
